Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The video below was produced by a UK-based women’s rights organization. Find out how you can help victims of domestic violence locally by visiting acadv.org, the  website of the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV). Also, consider registering for this year’s Governor’s Conference to benefit ACADV.

Other upcoming area events include:

Oct. 17: Panel at 5 p.m. at Oakwood University Church. The topic will deal with musician Chris Brown and will answer audience questions.

Oct. 19: A Walk Away From Abuse Walk-a-Thon will be held at the Alabama A&M University track at noon.

Oct. 24: An awareness seminar will be held at the Richard Showers Center from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Oct. 29: Candlelight vigil at Wade Residence Hall at Oakwood University from 6 to 7 p.m., and a Hugs Not Hurts concert at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s University Center from noon to 4 p.m.
